Crane ships six languages. There are rather more languages than that.
If you speak one we do not have and you want Crane to speak it too, this is the thread. Say which language, and we will send you the file and a tag to use.
You do not need GitHub, any tools, or any technical knowledge. See the pinned thread for what the work actually looks like. Short version: we email you one HTML file, you type translations into boxes in your browser, you email it back.
Languages we would most like next
Read this as our opinion, not our data.
We do not currently record what language our users run — the app deliberately collects very little, and locale is not part of it. So this list is a judgement call, not analytics. It is ranked by where we think a serious audiobook player is most likely to find people who care.
If you think we have this wrong, say so in this thread. You are better placed to know than we are, and this ordering is cheap to change.
1. Svenska (Swedish)
Sweden has among the highest audiobook listening rates in the world. If any country is full of people with strong opinions about an audiobook player, it is this one.
2. Nederlands (Dutch)
Same reasoning. High audiobook adoption, and a listening culture that takes the format seriously.
3. Polski (Polish)
A large market, and a long track record of excellent volunteer app translation.
4. Русский (Russian)
Large, and heavily represented among people who keep their own audiobook files rather than renting them from a service. That is exactly who Crane is built for.
5. 日本語 (Japanese)
A big market and a strong audio-content culture. Harder work than the ones above: a different writing system, and our tightest layout rows leave very little room.
6. 中文（简体）(Simplified Chinese)
The largest potential reach on this list. Same difficulty caveat as Japanese.
7. Dansk, Norsk, Suomi (Danish, Norwegian, Finnish)
Small populations, very high audiobook adoption per head. Grouped only because the reasoning is identical.
Not on the list?
Ask anyway. The list above is where we would spend effort if nobody volunteered. A real person who actually wants to do it beats any ranking we could invent. If you speak Turkish, Korean, Czech, Hungarian, Greek, Hebrew, Arabic, Hindi, or anything else — say so and you jump the queue by default.
What we ask before you start
Have a read of the pinned thread first. Two things there will save you rework: keep the {{placeholders}} intact, and a handful of labels have hard character limits that will fail our build if exceeded.
